As someone who just had to write a ten page paper on Kubler-Ross’s five stages of grief…
Ouch.
And pure utter brilliance.

“It’s almost like playing two people at once: Karofsky has one way he speaks and shows himself to his peers at school, and then there’s this whole other life beneath the surface, so with everything he says there’s something else that he’s thinking.” - Max Adler

I kind of find myself wishing that the start of the real Kurtofsky interaction hadn’t been so dark and serious. I get that they were trying to make a ‘statement’ about homophobic bullying and all that, but let’s face it, beyond the ones they made in season one about teen pregnancy and body image issues (both of which were interwoven with the plot so well that it wasn’t as obviously AFTER SCHOOL PSA and felt more like an actual part of the storyline) they’ve really, really sucked at it. From season 2 and beyond, they’ve either taken them too far, like with the Kurtofsky bullying, or they’ve made them so blatantly there just for statement-making. Either way, they’ve pretty much all been contrived or just obviously there for the sake of SAYING SOMETHING, no matter how eloquently the actors may have portrayed the ‘story’.
To an extent I agree, because as far as Glee goes it was heavier then other storylines. The real problem lies with how the Glee fandom took it in general. How they interpreted it and even twisted it. All you have to do is step out of the realm of Glee for a moment and think of other great love stories that have been as dark or darker, how it wasn’t a big deal, how it wasn’t a thing. I do kind of wish they had lightened up the bully arc but at the same time I believe that what honestly happened was good writing and the famdom taking off with it. I think that the writers weren’t expecting the backlash and I think they realized they had to try and fix it (fix Dave’s character). I think that every time we’ve seen Dave since then they’ve tried to fix it, when honestly it wouldn’t have had to be fixed like like this in any other film, tv show, or book. That being said…they really have created a beautiful character haven’t they? One that’s so sorry, and one that people can root for and think of affectionately. My 2 cents, meh
